UrbanArt Commission (UAC) hosted an opening reception for the Movable Collection at the Whitehaven Library on June 13, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
The Movable Collection is a project by UAC that purchases art directly from local artists for display in public spaces - with the goal of supporting local artists and bringing art to the community. The Whitehaven Library collection features the work of 17 artists: Ahmad George, Cheetoh Ryan, Claudia Tullos-Leonard, Eric Echols, Erica Vanhaute, Frank D. Robinson Jr., Lisa Williamson, Jimpsie Ayres, Johana Moscoso, Justin Bowles, Madame Frankie, Kaylyn Webster, Rose Marr Scott, Sam Barnet, Sophia Mason, Supvain Pritchard, and Whitney Rhodes.
At the event, people met the artists and talked with them about their work. It was a chance to mingle and ask questions to understand more about the art pieces and what inspired them.
There were light snacks, funded by community donors, and the event was open to everyone. It was a nice evening for people to come together and appreciate local art.
Representatives from Whitehaven Library and UAC spoke a few words of thanks and welcome to a group of 70+ attendees.
