Honk if You Like Our New Billboard!
UrbanArt Commission (UAC) proudly announces Kaylyn Webster as our newest featured billboard artist! Her captivating piece, "The Procession," is now on display right across the street from our offices. We invite everyone to come view this latest work of public art and join us in celebrating the artist's remarkable contribution to the Memphis art scene.
About the Art
"The Procession" is a celebration of family, a recurring theme in Webster’s work. The painting features her two nephews, members of Whitehaven High School’s marching band, depicted boldly marching down a neighborhood street. The background showcases two houses representing a continuum of Black American history: a dilapidated shack and a nest bungalow. The boys, standing in the foreground with their tuba and trumpet, exude personality and interests, defying any judgments based on their skin color.
About the Artist
Kaylyn Webster earned her BFA in Studio Art with a Painting Concentration and a minor in African and African American Studies from Washington University in St. Louis in May 2022. Hailing from Memphis, TN, Webster has a lifelong passion for the Creative & Performing Arts. Her work explores the Black experience in America, portraying the complexities of joy and struggle in a nation with a multifaceted history.
