In November of 2023, UAC gained a new Executive Director, Lakeisha Edwards.
Here are a few words about her onboarding from current board Chair, Neffertti Orrin, Deputy Director of Clean Memphis:
“With her exceptional strengths and remarkable ability to connect with individuals, I am confident that Lakeisha will play a pivotal role in advancing the mission of the Urban Art Commission. One of Lakeisha's key strengths lies in her ability to foster meaningful relationships within and beyond the arts community. Her expertise in expanding partnerships and engaging diverse communities align seamlessly with our organization's goals, ensuring that our programs are in line with our mission and strategic direction. As the Board Chair of the Urban Art Commission, I am excited about the possibilities that lie ahead with Lakeisha at the helm. Her leadership and vision will undoubtedly bring new and innovative opportunities for the arts community in our city. I have no doubt that her impact will be felt not only within our organization but also within the broader arts landscape. I am confident that under Lakeisha's leadership, the Urban Art Commission will continue to thrive and make significant contributions to the cultural and artistic vibrancy of our city. I look forward to working closely with Lakeisha and the rest of our team as we embark on this new and exciting chapter.”
