On August 12, 2024, UAC marked a significant milestone in the development of the new Lester Community Center—a topping-out ceremony celebrating the installation of the final structural beam, and the start of the walls where UAC has been commissioned to install a mural!
Representing completion of the building's framework, this event had been eagerly anticipated by everyone involved in the project including Memphis Parks representatives, the construction team at Turner MidSouth, the architects at brg3s, and the management team at MFA for their hard work and commitment to bringing this project to life.
The Mayor of Memphis, Paul Young, was in attendance to speak a few words honoring the occasion, and gave his endorsement on the continued development of the neighborhood.
As the construction phase nears its conclusion, UAC is excited to turn its focus toward enhancing the community center's walls with public art.
We’re pleased to share that a public mural has already been commissioned by the City of Memphis for this new Community Center located on Tillman Street, adding vibrancy and creativity to the area.

Stay tuned for more exciting updates as we continue our work on this project, with more public art initiatives planned for 2025!
